10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for most of us. But it should be done. As the winter comes to an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of a home?
The outside of your house could use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your house in Grand Prairie, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save money over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean out your gutters, because so many leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in the spring, making a mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are searching for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help to prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t cause you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows can be trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard chore, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your home, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem silly because you’ll be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washing company can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also, think about adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use in the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it in the winter when you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.
Detergent and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are common home roof issues in Grand Prairie. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it is a great time to clean your roof too, but you’ll have to use a different method than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you start to see streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The ideal process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and leave it sit. This will eliminate all organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is going to be what most people passing by see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will probably inspire you to spend a lot more time outside.
You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean unnoticed areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will soon be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful opportunity to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor work.
Yard tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific place outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the outside of your house much more during the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a big impact on the look of your house.
Remove weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you’ll be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably complete all of these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call!
